Adrienne Provost was inspired to develop this website during her dissertation research.  Her study, Digging in the Wrong Place: Tracing Discursive Artifacts of Humanistic Education in the Community College, identified a relative gap in the community college historiography. The absence of an account of the humanistic education movement, especially considering the ideology's correspondence with the community college expansion period, potentially obscured the agency and autonomy of community college leaders.

Further, an overall lack of community college archival data troubles historical research.  To address this issue, Provost partnered with preeminent community college leader and scholar Terry O'Banion. This website offers community college students and scholars an informational  hub to spotlight the incredible efforts of those leaders committed to the egalitarian mission of democracy's college.
